Documents for projects?
Added by Deleted user almost 10 years ago
Hello,
i would have liked to add some general PDF, the contract etc. to my project, and setup Version-Control-System to “Filesystem”.
But i cannnot add anything via GUI? Only via ftp??
Or do i have to become an expert for github and buy a non-public account for my confidential ;-) documents, to save them at the NSA, ahem, United States?
Also in this post: Preview-Link does nothing.

Hi Thomas,
you don’t have to involve the NSA ;)
You can connect OpenProject to a local SVN or GIT repository. Setup a local, e.g. SVN, repository than you can add the filesystem path to your project within the “Repository” tab in the Project settings.
I apologize that there is no documentation for this currently. We are working on a “full” documention which we will release with the OpenProject 3.0 stable release end of February.

Hi Ratzi,
I also looked for a possibility to store documents in a project using the GUI.
Is there any way to bring documents into the connected repository only by the use of the web-frontend?
Maybe there is some OpenProject/ChilliProject/Redmine Plugin, that would help out?
Thanks for any hints on this.
Kind regards…
Susi
Hi Susanne,
currently there is now way to add documents to the connected repository with the web-frontend. There is a plugin for Redmine which enables File upload and some other functions for an SVN repository but this plugin is not compatible to OpenProject without adaptations. I don’t know if we plan to develop a plugin like this for OpenProject.

Hi Christian,
Thanks for this quick and helpful answer.

What kind of adaptations have to be done? (I have a running OpenProject 2.4.0.)
The idea is to have project participants that are completely new to version control systems and at an age where they don’t learn it anymore. They should only “upload” their files to the right folder - according to a prescribed recipe. No local installations should be required for this. They are book authors - no computer scientists. They also may download any files from other participants through the web-frontend - but that is already possible.

Hi Susanne,
I thought you wanted to use OpenProject 3.0. With OpenProject 2.4.0 you can try to add the plugin, as described on the plugin page, with a very high chance that it work.

Hi Christian,
Thanks for the great news. I’ll give it a try.
I’m sorry that I missed to describe my current set in the first post.
But to be honest, the timeline attracts me to change to OpenProject 3 - once it’s in a stable version.
Kind regards…
Susanne
