While the critical path feature is indeed a common requirement in project management software, it's essential to understand that its absence in OpenProject doesn't necessarily mean the platform is lacking in modern project management capabilities.

Focus on Agile Methodologies: OpenProject is known for its strong support for Agile methodologies, such as Scrum and Kanban. While critical path analysis is valuable in traditional project management approaches like Waterfall, Agile methodologies prioritize adaptability and iterative development over rigid scheduling. OpenProject's features may be more aligned with Agile practices, providing tools for collaboration, transparency, and flexibility.

Alternative Planning Techniques: OpenProject offers various planning and scheduling tools that can achieve similar outcomes to critical path analysis, albeit through different approaches. For example, Agile release planning, sprint planning, and backlog prioritization help teams identify and prioritize tasks based on their impact on project goals and timelines. These techniques focus on delivering value incrementally rather than strictly adhering to a predefined critical path.

Customization and Integration: OpenProject is highly customizable and extensible, allowing organizations to integrate third-party tools and plugins to meet specific project management needs. While critical path analysis may not be a built-in feature, it's possible to integrate external tools or develop custom solutions to perform critical path calculations and analysis alongside OpenProject.

Community and Feedback: Engage with the OpenProject community to understand how other users are managing projects effectively without the critical path feature. Gather insights, best practices, and alternative approaches that align with the platform's strengths and capabilities. Community feedback can provide valuable perspectives and practical solutions to address stakeholders' concerns. scratch geometry dash

Continuous Improvement: Highlight OpenProject's commitment to continuous improvement and feature development based on user feedback and industry trends. While critical path analysis may not be a high-priority feature currently, ongoing updates and enhancements may address this need in the future. Encourage stakeholders to contribute to the product roadmap and share their specific requirements to shape the platform's evolution.
General discussion: Reverse proxying with SSL using Nginxhttps://community.openproject.org/topics/18548?forum_id=62024-03-15T12:36:14ZSam Vervaeck

Hello,

we want to integrate openproject in our company but the stakeholders definetly want a software which has the critical path feature.
I have seen the work package regarding this feature and that its pretty much low rated regarding impact for openproject customers.
The killer argument from management regarding this is always "in all other software porducts this feature is available".
For this reason i want to ask for some feedback from the community regarding this as im not a project manager:
What arguments can be made for openproject not having this feature, is the critical path not used in modern project management?

Hi Maurice!

When you set a filter, you should be able to save it as a view by clicking on the tile with the three dots at the top right of the list and selected "Save as" in the menu that opens. In the ensuing dialog, you can define the name for the view , make it public (i.e., visible for all users) and add it to favorites (it will sit in a Favorites section at the top of the sidebar on the left).

AFAIK, you cannot limit access to those views to a selct group of users or a user group. However, I would imagine (withouthaving tested this) you would achieve the desired effect with the following steps:

create an umbrella project for all the projects you want to report it (i.e., have the latter be on the lower levels of a hierarchy openend up under the former)

define your views in that project, ensuring that they include all lower-level projects in the filter settings

add the project managers you want to have access to the views as members for the umbrella project

I hope I understood your challenge correctly and this helps!
General discussion: System-Wide pre-defined filtershttps://community.openproject.org/topics/18544?forum_id=62024-03-13T05:37:18ZMaurice Kunzemaurice.kunze@saarbruecken.de

Hello,

is it possible to create pre-defined filters for all users of a system or maybe for a group.
For example: i want some project managers to see pre-defined filter for only milestones in their projects and for some lower level groups that they see all their tasks in a pre-defined filter.
